Leg 2 - Linchmere Common to Hammer Vale (1.25 km)

Cross Linchmere Road, turning L (S) and then R through gate at information board, following Serpent Trail (wm) onto Linchmore Common access land.  Continue ahead, following Serpent Trail on sandy footpath, ignoring all turn-offs.  In 200m, bear R at path junction and, in a further 25m, turn R off Serpent Trail (wm) on footpath passing behind bench.  In 100m, bear R (wm) on descending bridleway and, in 100m, bear L continuing to descend.  In a further 100m, at wm, turn L and pass through gate. Continue ahead (N) on path to metalled main Liphook Road (B2131) (sp).  Cross road with care slightly R onto bridleway (sp) into Hammer Coppice, and continue ahead on footpath, shortly crossing metalled vehicle track (wm) onto descending footpath between fenced grounds of 2 houses.  Continue ahead on fenced footpath,  bearing L and R between pastures, and descending on (frequently muddy) sunken path, passing through through several gates/stiles.  At the bottom, turn R on track through gate/stile and at metalled farm track, turn L passing through gated entrance to Hammer Farm House at Hammer Bottom.   Continue ahead through farm, passing through pedestrian gate between buildings, to pedestrian rail crossing.  Look and listen and cross quickly to vehicle track ahead, crossing the River Wey, and ascending R past cottages to metalled Hammer Vale (sp) at the Prince of Wales Pub and car park.
